Dear users of iPath

In a joint initiatve with others we have just started a discussion and resource sharing platform on "telemedicine in low resource settings". This is NOT another consultative service, but a discussion group for those who are running their own telemedicine projects or are interested in doing so. The discussion is hosted on dgroups and you can find it on http://dgroups.org/groups/telemedicine (there is a small "join" button on the top right).

The intention of this initiative is to foster more collaboration between different projects and to build a joint database of resource, events and ideas. (KB)

Have you always been frustrated that you cannot easily take your browser or email client with your settings and run it on any computer? Or that you cannot install certain applications on a computer at work?

I have come across a very nice solution called "Portable Apps". They package open-source applications like FireFox or OpenOffice in a way that you do not need to install it locally. All files (application, settings, favourites) are all saved in one folder and you can easily copy it form one place to another and you can even run e.g. FireFox off a memory stick. Very convenient if you aleays want to have your browser with you. A large number of applications are available as Portable Apps from here:
http://portableapps.com/

NOTE: Portable Apps are made to run on Windows.

I changed the code of this function in iPath and it seems now to be working more accuratley and even a bit faster. However, if you find some problems with the "new comment" marks (red crosses), please let me know!

The iPath site is secured by an SSL certificate issued by CAcert, a free and trustworthy SSL certificate authority. Since most browser do not by default recognise CAcert, you must install the root certificate manually to get rid of the annoying warning message everytime you log in. A short manual how to do this is now available here.

Kursų dalyviai iki kursų pradžios 2006 09 04 gali savarankiškai studijuoti patologijos atvejus, rašyti savo diagnozes. Atvejai bus aptarti kursų metu ir tuomet atvejai bus papildyti galutinėmis diagnozėmis, imunohistocheminių metodų nuotraukomis ir paskaitų konspektais. Ateityje planuojama ir toliau diegti DISTANCINIO mokymo patologijoje metodą, kas palengvintų organizuoti tobulinimo procesą patologams neišvykstant iš darbo vietų 10-12 darbo dienų.

Dear users,

Microsoft has confirmed so called “zero-day” attacks using an unpatched vulnerability in Microsoft Excel 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, Excel 2002, Excel 2000, Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac, and Microsoft Excel v. X for Mac. Opening a malicious crafted excel-file gives an attacker the possibility to execute his code on your computer. These attacks are currently mostly carried out by sending emails with those malicious attachments.
Advice of the Basel University Computing Centre: please be very carefully with opening excel-files, especially those received by email. If you are using outlook you are at a higher risk as outlook opens excel attachments automatically - check the microsoft advisory how to disable this function until your excel is patched. A patch might be released in several days.
